Secret bottom bite, Dropshot knot trick, Green carp caught in MN

We’ve mentioned it before…but the time is NOW. The secret, late-summer walleye location that doesn’t necessarily show up on the map = hard-to-soft bottom transitions. And walleyes + bait cruise ’em like a highway!

This new Tom Boley video (just posted today on the Target Walleye YouTube channel) breaks down exactly what he’s looking for in this “Location of the Month” so you can duplicate and track down walleyes on your home water:

I was expecting to feel some little bluegills in there, but its belly was soft. Maybe it had some kind of tumor growing in its belly like this walleye we shared a couple weeks back?? I let her go, so I guess we’ll never know.

Funny enough that was the smallest fish (4.32 lbs) out of our 5-fish bag that went 22.75 lbs that day! The type of day that made the 3AM alarm clock 🤢 worth it as we had our 5 biggest by 7:30AM!

Found them cruising the sand on an inside weedline and it was double after double…until they completely shut off and disappeared = great walleye impression! Definitely a morning I will never forget.

It was a nice change of pace from walleye fishing around here…. The whole getting to set the hook a zillion times things lol. For sure needed that.

The walleyes have been straight-up funky. To put it into perspective: We had our local walleye league on Tuesday (stacked full of local hammers who know these lakes well) and we were somehow able to sneak in a 2nd place with just 3 fish for 7-some lbs. Seeing tons of fish, but they just don’t want to eat. Finally had to bust-out that 3/16-oz VMC Ned Rig Jig with a half of a crawler to get those handful of bites. I’m ready for fall when the gettin’ is good….

6. Some IGFA relief funds headed to MT after historic flooding.

> The IGFA announced that it is partnering with the Fishing Outfitters Assn of MT (FOAM) to distribute $30,000 of relief funding from the IGFA’s Worldwide Anglers Relief Fund (WARF) to the recreational fishing industry in wake of the historic flooding that took place earlier this summer in MT.

> The IGFA and its partners at Costa Sunglasses created the WARF in Sept 2017 to provide financial support to charter captains, guides, and crewmembers of the recreational angling community in the wake of major natural disasters. To date, the WARF has disbursed a total of $225K to recreational angling associations…to help local captains and guides recover from natural disasters.”

7. TC Walleyes Unlimited donates shed and fishing gear…

…to Camp Fire Minnesota, “an inclusive nature-based youth development organization, serving a highly diverse population of youth in the Twin Cities metro area.”

> Youth have expressed a strong interest in fishing, having this new shed to store and organize our fishing gear will help increase our ability to provide fishing experiences and provide our kids an exciting opportunity to grow new outdoor skills.”
