Veteran’s Day was yesterday. I just want to say a big THANK YOU to military Veterans, those currently serving + families! We love you, we appreciate you, and will never forget what you’ve done for this country. 🇺🇸
Btw have you ever seen these pics? Ron Lindner (top) during his time serving in the Korean War, and Al Lindner (bottom) taken in Vietnam and one of the few shots of him without a rod/reel in his hand.... Thx much!

The Walleye Cup is back! 🏆
|
|
|
We have some fresh, new YouTube content coming your way!
Let’s kick things off with a new ICE FISHING season of “The Walleye Cup” where Nick Lindner, TJ Erickson and myself go head-to-head-to-head, battling it out to see who can catch the 5 longest walleyes in 48 hours on Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba. The stakes? Ultimate bragging rights and rightful ownership of the coveted Walleye Cup. 😏
Oh, and to help keep things interesting: The person who’s in the lead is not allowed to use ANY sonar. 👀
Here’s episode 1 that was posted on YT earlier this week:

And episode 2 just went live at 3pm cst TODAY. 👊

“I will never reschedule a trip in the fall due to severe cold snaps...this is why. Hungry, gluttonous fish feeding up for winter.”

Easy to see why Brian says he looks forward to this bite more than anything.

Btw the KS state-record walleye went 13.16 lbs (29″) and was caught outta Wilson Reservoir on 4/17/96 by Dustin Ritter. Can’t find pics of it anywhere on the internet, but:

Angler allegedly caught using fake kayak to cheat in kayak fishing tourneys?! 😧
|
|
|
Here’s some details from a Wired2Fish post:
> In a recent month-long tournament for the New York Kayak Bass Fishing Club (NYKBFC), Pennsylvania kayak angler [name removed] was caught cheating by using his small aluminum bass boat in a kayak-only event while on the St. Lawrence River this summer. ...used his bass boat with a cut-out section of a kayak on the back deck to fish the kayak tournament, fooling the judges by photographing his fish inside the “kayak.”

There was more evidence AND an admission, too. Pretty wild story.
*Me extremely disappointed but trying not to respond emotionally

Uncut Angling is already ice fishing 🥶
|
|
|
Fishing YouTube superstar Aaron Wiebe posted the first on-ice vid I’ve seen so far of the 2025/2026 hardwater season and in typical Uncut Angling fashion it did not disappoint.
He literally climbed a (Rocky) mountain for this one in an attempt to catch an ultra-rare golden trout. 😳 What a WILD adventure:

|
|
Glad to see him back in action! 🐐

1. Record canal zander caught
Zander is the European cousin to walleye:
> Mike Pisera caught the impressive 20-lb 6-oz fish during a recent trip, and it’s the biggest-ever example of the species reported from one of our man-made waterways, eclipsing Mike Duffield’s 18-lb 14-oz zander from the Gloucester Canal in 2023.
Was 90 cm long, which is roughly 35.43 inches.
|
|
|
Said he had to downsize to a 7.5-cm plastic (roughly 3”, which isn’t all that small by walleye standards....) cuz he was getting short strikes. 👀
That fish was flirting with James Benfield’s long-standing 21 lb 5 oz UK record caught from the River Severn in 2007.
2. MN: Lake of the Woods walleye abundance survey deets 📈
Slight decline in the babies (9-10" fish) compared to the record 2021 year class, but above average numbers for bigger fish.
3. MI: Catch and EAT walleye...
...in South Chain of Lakes? There’s a paywall so I’m not sure where they were going with that....
4. ND: Fargo SCHEELS Ice Fest, Nov 21-22
5. Field & Stream 🤝 Outdoor America...
...partner to launch “Field & Stream TV.”
> ...rebranding Outdoor America’s free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) and broadcast platforms under one of America’s most trusted outdoor brands.
> The collaboration – announced by Doug McNamee, President of Field & Stream, and Nick Rhodes, CEO of Outdoor America Holdings – unites Field & Stream’s 150-year heritage with Outdoor America’s rapidly growing television network to create the premier video destination for outdoor storytelling and lifestyle content.
6. Every portable ice shack should have…
...more of these “Ice Hangers” than you’d think ‼️ for drying out gloves, jackets, snowmobile helmet, you name it. Cheap, awesome, and something you will use ALL of the time:

Jason Mitchell's early ice-safety check list
> Recommended equipment includes ice cleats for walking on slippery ice along with a spud bar. A hard swing with most spud bars will chip about 3” of ice. Use the spud bar to check ice ahead of you as you walk. Other safety items include ice picks, throw rope and float suit.
> ...3-4” of hard, clear ice will generally support a walking adult...5-6” of good ice will typically support a snowmobile or small ATV...12” of good ice is recommended for supporting a full size vehicle.

“Had the river to myself today – thank you, deer hunters!
- That’s Joel VandeKrol talking, and I can tell has been hanging out with In-Fisherman's Doug Stange because he’s busting out the big saltwater swimbait to whack himself some walleyes!
|
|
|
I’ll never forget the first time I saw a video from Doug Stange rigging a big, saltwater Berkley PowerBait SIDEWAYS on a jighead, ‘cuz I went out and tried it, and commenced with the whacking!

Brett McComas is the main man for Target Walleye He was discovered in Brainerd, MN after years of wondering how in the heck people break into the fishing biz. He's in it now, but still can't answer that question.... Brett is one of those guys who majored in marketing, only because there was no such thing as a "fishing degree" at the time....
