Ice fishing TIGER TROUT! (Bucket-list fish)

My wife Amanda and I hit Twin Lakes near Roblin, Manitoba and were finally able to scratch tiger trout [!] off our fishing bucket list. Tigers are brookie-brownie hybrids and FREAKIN’ gorgeous.

Amanda’s first/biggest tiger popped the barbless hook in the hole, but my man Eric Labaupa (with Travel Manitoba) was able to make one heck of a save — on video — can’t fake this kind of excitement:

Can’t wait to get back up there to catch one of the super-colorful males — the fish we caught were all females and considered the “ugly ones” lol!

The Manitoba record tiger trout was caught out of this same lake (Twin Lakes) and taped out at a massive 28″…. Yup, they grow ’em big! And with the lake being catch-and-release only, they’re just gonna get even more bigger-er.

Guys said they’re aggressive enough to smash a Rapala Shadow Rap during the open-water months of May, June and Sep. Can’t even imagine, but hope to experience it one day.

We stayed at Harvest Moon Inn (Roblin, MB) which was a short 35-min drive from these Twin Lakes tiger trout. If that’s too long of a haul for you (lol) East and West Goose Lakes are hidden right in town — just 4-min away — and packed with world-class browns and rainbows over 30″.

Safe to say we’ll be back, but not soon enough….
